What happens when the rebels stop being the rebels?
The act of seeing yourself become something you used to hate must be ironic to say the least, but what if you can’t even see that?
In short, Punk Rock was in essence a reformation to Rock. A rebirth of the rebellious spirit that gave rise to Rock and Roll in the first place. One could make the arguments that Rock and Roll were rebellions to traditional forms of music, like country and folk, which will be touched on later.
Punk rock was always about people who could sense the bullshit. They may not agree on exactly the cause or source, but they pushed for change and pushed back against authority.
However, over the last few decades, it seems like the anti authoritarian heroes have used their platform to enforce the rules rather than question it.
They chose conformity over individualism.
But what happens in society when the Rebels stop being the Rebels?
What happens when the contrarians support the establishment?
It seems like there’s always a cultural shakeup every few Generations.
There has been discussion on this podcast that eventually the pendulum will come swinging back to the right after swinging to the left for the past 60+ years.
So what would some of the signs that things were changing look like?

Once again, how do you rebel when the rebels aren’t rebels anymore?
Another shift that should be watch is the nirvana moment going on in country music
Folk artist like Oliver Anthony and Zach Bryan have been “topping the charts” without the help of major labels and promotion, much like Grunge in the 90s.
Music has always been a siren song for the zeitgeist, could this be the beginning of the pendulum slowly coming back, or is it going to come crushing back with a showdown.
